The last four days has been very wet and foggy.
We had a lot of thunderstorms coming through. Sometimes the window panes were rattling and the whole house seemed to reverberate.
It got to the point that Molly decided enough is enough. She decided to hide in the bathtub. She has never done such before.
Weird.
Today we had the first dry day. Returning from a walk with Molly I approached the van from back. What is that???
I saw a strange pattern on the rear door. That hadn't been there.
Upon a closer look it seems as if water has got behind the paint.
I have never seen such before.
We had LOTS of rain, but hey, isn't that weird?

Happy Days - Happy People
What a joy being back into a normal life! Shower, cooking, laundry, vacuum, phone/internet, you name it!
You don't know what you have until you are deprived of it!
I am very thankful for all these utility workers who really did, and still are doing, a tremendous job getting us back on the grid as soon as possible.
And just in time to be able to watch the semi final match of Germany-Brazil and Netherlands - Argentina! Not that I am sports crazy. But when it comes to the final on Sunday - I will be watching!!!
Back to a normal life - I had more visitors. Betty and John from Ontario came to stay over at our place.
Yesterday they were enjoying the company of my friends Rogette
and William. Both couples discovered that, many years ago, they
used to live in the same area, just a few miles apart from each
other, but never met until now.
Reminiscent of time long gone they talked about where they used to
go shopping, who was who, who might still be around and they had great fun in each others company.
Afterwards we made a trip to the Lighthouse.
Last week I waited, together with another couple, until the sand
bank was passable to get over to the island where the light-house
sits on, and then we climbed into the light tower.
From there on you will have about 4 hours to stay on and visit
before the waters rise and cover the sand bank again.
Yesterday we only had a peak from the main island towards the light house.
Some whale watchers were out on the waters too.
Now I am on a new project. Betty was so kind as to show me how to make a rug out of plastic bags. Here is my first evening worth of crocheting...

And YES, there is a bridge over to Campobello Island.
The Roosevelt Campobello International Bridge.
The other day I got a phone call where someone inquired if they had to take a ferry over to our Island. When I asked what direction they were coming from the answer was: Bar Harbor. That is coming up from the south-west. No need to go to Eastport, ME and take two ferries to get over here. Just take the bridge from Lubec, ME!
If you come from Canada, say St. John, then you can take the ferry. But, the ferry runs only from the end of June to the end of September. The rest of the year you have to go into the US (Maine) to get on to the island.

As you see it is only assessable by low tide. It took an hour and twenty minutes from when we arrived until we finally could walk over. |

BACK- after power outage!
Hi - I am back again! What an experience. Two days without power, phone and internet. Camping life.
The storm hit the island pretty bad and there is a lot of damage all around.
I just got online to send signs of being alive and unharmed in all kind of directions.
It started out Saturday around noon when the wind got worse and worse. I watched as a spruce tree came down onto a neighbours deck.
Later, I had to go to the motel and took these shots...

Eastport, Maine, part two
Eastport, Maine, part two
The roads were packed with people milling around and waiting for the parade to start.
We went to a place called "Quoddy Bay Lobster" which is known
for being the best place in all Maine
for a good lobster dinner.
And here we go...............MMMMMMHHH
This was a lobster roll junior size. Just enough for me.
After lunch we strolled back through the crowds, had another
view across the harbour and to USS Anzio
before we decided to take the next ferry home and
not wait for the parade. We were at that point tired and longing
for a cool place to put our feet up.
But it definitely had been a gorgeous "fun day".
On the way back the wind had picked up,
the air was considerably colder, and
the waters were now choppy.
There were gulls everywhere.
Back at home I carried the deck furniture inside and
lined up my flower pots for the same procedure.
The rest of my garden has to get through the rough
weather as good as it can.
An hour later the sky turned into an ominous shade of grey
and dark clouds were rolling in.
"ARTHUR"
was closing in on us.
I am not sure if there will be any fireworks tonight.
PS. As of 8:30 AM Saturday morning: There was no firework, it rained. Now there is a very strong wind, all the trees are bending and twisting.
Electricity goes on and off.
Steven and Lindsey are back in the US after a horrible border crossing into Canada in St. Stephens. Read about it here. They decided not to go to Nova Scotia as was planned.
