Transition Day 3


Today I welcome "Nan" to my blog. I hope you have as much fun following my posts as I have writing them!
Simple Baked Apple
Transition Day 3 is done too. The house is vacuum cleaned and dusted. 2 more loads of laundry done and air dried in the Nor'eastern. 
Most of the items are moved. But we want to avoid our own moving until Sunday. The weather turned cold and snow showers are predicted. Brrr. It is better to stay in the warm house for a little longer.
For dinner I made shredded cabbage in white sauce with potatoes and JP got his meat loaf. That is such an easy thing with pre-cooked food, eh?
The cabbage was quartered and cooked in saltwater yesterday. Today I just had to make a sauce with a little butter. flower and milk. Seasoned with nutmeg. 1/4 of the cooked cabbage was thinly cut and warmed up with the sauce. The right food for a cold day.
Dessert: baked apple with cinnamon and raisins. 
Core an apple, melt butter in a sauce pan. Fill apple with raisins (and chopped nuts). Fry the apple a minute then pour a 1/2 inch water into the pan and steam over low heat until soft. Drizzle with sugar and cinnamon. 
No vanilla sauce today. These ingredients were already moved.


Das Haus ist auf Vordermann gebracht, die letzte Maschine Wäsche im Nordwestwind getrocknet und das Meiste hat nun seinen Platz im rollenden Hotel gefunden. Nur wir zwei wollen so lange wie möglich das Haus benutzen denn das Wetter ist ziemlich kalt geworden. Schneeschauer sind gemeldet. Brrr. Da bleibt man doch gerne in einer gut gewärmten Stube.
Zum Abendessen gab es einfache Küche. Gestern hatte ich einen Kohlkopf geviertelt und gekocht. Heute gab es Kohl in weißer Soße mit Muskat. Dazu Kartoffeln und Falschen Hasen. Gut wenn man nur alles aufwärmen muß.
Zum Nachtisch gebackene Äpfel. 
Das Kerngehäuse entfernen und die Öffnung mit Rosinen und evtl. Nüssen füllen.
Dann in einem kleinen Topf etwas Butter schmelzen und die Äpfel eine Minute anbraten. Mit ein wenig Wasser auffüllen und bei niedriger Hitze weichdämpfen. Mit Zimt und Zucker bestreuen.
Vanillesoße gab es nicht, die war schon im rollenden Hotel verstaut.
Huset er rengjort og den siste klesvasken ble tørket i Nordvestern. Mesteparten av saker og ting har nå skiftet bopel. Men vi venter med å gjøre det samme med oss. Været har blitt betydelig kaldere. Det er varslet rain og slydd. Alt for tidlig! Vi vil da hygge oss lengst mulig i varmen og blir boende i huset til siste liten.


Til middagen ble de kål med hvitsauce. Igår delte jeg et hode i fire deler og kokte det i saltvann. Idag måtte jeg bare lage en tykk saus av smør, mel og melk og skjære 1/4 kål i tynne strimler. Varmet opp i sausen og krydret med muskat, enkelt og greit. I tilleg ble det kokte poteter og kjøttpudding.
Som dessert ble det laget stekte epler. Men ikke med vanilje saus, den var ryddet bort allerede. Jeg smeltet litt smør og stekte eplene, som var fyllt me rosiner, i noen minutter. Så fyllte jeg på med litt vann og dampet eplene ved svak varme inntil de ble myk.
Sprinkles med sukker og kanel.
