This meal was not what I had planned it was more on the pumpkin side, but my dear husband wished for one of his favourites: no, not sausages ;) but meat loaf! I prepared that during the morning hours.
And, because was pouring rain outside I made another comforting apple cake. (see Sept 23.)
Ingredients for meat loaf:
2 lb. ground beef
1 onion (minced)
1 egg
1 tbs. mustard
some crackers ( didn't have stale bread)
1 cup of sauerkraut (leftover, why not use it here)
salt, pepper, garlic powder, 1 bay leaf (crushed)
1 bacon, sliced
Directions:
Mix all well and season good. Fill in a bread baking dish and place bacon on top of it. Place into the oven and bake by 350 F for one hour and 20 minutes. Take out of the oven and separate from the grease that has cooked out of the meat.
Make a sauce:
3/4 cup ketchup, 2 tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp Tabasco sauce, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 tsp paprika powder and 1/2 cup water.
Combine all ingredients in pan and boil for 1 minute, turn heat low to simmer and cook until liquid is reduced by one third.
Side dish: cooked potatoes and root vegetables (2 carrots and 1 slice of rutabaga, steamed and seasoned with salt, butter and nutmeg).

Zutaten für den Hackbraten:
1 kg gemischtes Hackfleisch, 1 Ei
1 Zwiebel 1 Eßl. Senf
ein paar Käsekräcker (statt altem Brot) 1 Scheibe geräucherten Speck
200g Sauerkraut (hatte ich noch übrig, warum nicht hier verwenden)
Salz, Pfeffer, Knoblauchpulver, 1 zerriebenes Lorbeerblatt
Anleitung:
Alle Zutaten gut mischen und kräftig würzen. In eine Kastenbrotform geben und bei 200 C ca 1,5 Std im Backofen garen.
Dann herausnehmen und aus dem Fett heben. Separat abkühlen lassen.
Eine Soße aus 200 ml Ketchup, 2 Eßl Honig, 1/2 Teel. Tabasco, 1 Teel. Zitronensaft, 1/2 Eßl. Paprika und 1/2 Tasse Wasser.
Alles verrühren und ein Minute aufkochen, dann auf kleiner Hitze 1/3 einkochen lassen.
Beilagen: Salzkartoffeln und Wurzelgemüse (2 Karotten und eine Scheibe Steckrübe gedünstet und mit Salz, Butter und Muskat gewürzt.)
Egentlig hadde jeg planlagt å lage noe med gresskar men gubben min ønsket seg kjøttpudding til middag. Den laget jeg ferdig på morningen. Og fordi det var været var så trist laget jeg i tillegg enda en deilig eplekake. (se 23. Sept.)

1 kg magert kjøttdeig 1 egg
1 løk 1 ss sennep
noen salt kjeks (isteden for gammel brød) 1 skive bacon
200 g surkål ( var tilovers, hvorfor ikke bruke det her)
salt, pepper, hvitløkpulver, 1 knust einebærblad
Bland alt ihop and smak kraftig til med krydder. Legg in i en bakeform og stek ved 200 Grader i ca 1 1/2 time. Ta ut av ovnen og ut av fettet som har kokt ut av kjøttdeigen. Kjøles ned separat.
Lag en saus av 200 ml ketchup, 2 ss honning, 1/2 ts tabasco, 1 ts zitronjuice, 1/2 ss paprikapulver, og 1/2 kopp med vann. Kokes opp i en minutt og småkokes innen sausen er redusert 1/3 del.
Serveres med kokte poteter og grønnsaker (kokt til mør 2 gulrot og en skive med kålrot, kryddret med salt, smør og nutmeg.)
