A ferry ride and guests from Kentucky

There was a break in all the work days.
I went to the Canadian Mainland for a shopping spree with my employer and friend Fran. She wanted to buy several trees and bushes and these are not allowed to be transported through the US.
So, on the way back we took the summer ferry connection to the island.
At the ferry landing on Deer Island
The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. The tide was at it's lowest.
The ferry had to wait for a boat passing by.

Arriving at the ferry landing on Campobello Island
When I arrived back at home I had guests from Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Rachel and her son Zack came with their "Rialta" and stayed for two nights to explore the area.
They were great company, and good food followed in their wake. Maybe we will be able to drop in at their place at one time in the future. Who knows?

Now I am back to my solitude and this morning I particularly enjoyed the view and the garden.
Early morning sunshine on the porch
Colourful "eye candy"
My perennials along the front are filling in nicely
That's the idea, a garden that is not overwhelming. Just for the fun of it.

Summer views and a DIY project.

If you wondered what happened to me, I just had a writers block and took a break from posting.

Life is going on like it always does. Nothing exciting to write about.
Spring has finally turned into summer.
It is the time I love the best. The weather is mostly pleasant, not hot yet and nature is still so fresh and blooming. I love the morning walks and the view over to Eastport, ME.
Eastport, Maine, bathed in the morning sun
June is the month where our ferry starts going again and we can reach the Canadian mainland without driving through the US first.
The summer ferry has started up again
June on the island means lots of lupines all around. A nice view here but elsewhere they are shunned as a weed and even prohibited. Not here.
View down towards the ferry landing
Wild lupines everywhere
My days go with pottering around in my garden, working at he motel and tending on other peoples flowerbeds and window boxes.

I am taking up on things that have been irritating me.
Earning so to say "brownie points" for myself...
For example the silicon sealing along the edge of the bath tub.
Over the years the water had stained it an ugly brown and I HATED that view.
Eeew! That has to come off!!
I couldn't pester hubby anymore to do the job and no "caretaker"  around either. :((
There was no way around it -  I had to DIY (myself).
Easy does it, no pistol needed.
Off it came
Scraped the old vinyl out, and with the advice of some smart neighbour gals I got the job done. I was surprised how easy the task was. I could have done it way earlier! Next time I will.
Ha! Nice and clean again. :))
More projects are waiting. The attic is still a mess and the garage needs a clean out as well. There is no time to be bored here.

Visitors from Texas

Tuesday I got visitors from Texas.
Fellow "boondockers" we visited while being down there in January. Valinda, Gary and Meggie. They were accompanied by Fred, a handsome Shar-Pei-Labrador.
Fred, in their driveway, when we left their place in January.
They parked their camper here for the night.
"Nice to see you again, Molly!"
They are great pals. He loves Molly and she likes him too. They even shared their bones to chew on.
It was great to have them all around for company.
We toured the Island, and visited the Roosevelt Cottage;

went rock-hunting on the beach, shopped for souvenirs and tasted a local fish supper,

while the dogs waited patiently at home.
Molly and Fred waiting behind the storm-door.
All in all they concluded: it had a great time!

It was sad seeing them leave today, but there plan to visit other places in Canada before they will return back to Texas.
They promised they would come back, and was treated with a whole heap of Mint-Melts to sweeten the "farewell." :))

You are welcome anytime!

Lunch at the Fireside Restaurant

We were one and a half couple that celebrated their anniversaries and we decided to do that at the brand new addition to the FDR Park

With a fantastic view over the Friar Straits towards Eastport, ME
the restaurant is located in the former Adam's Lodge, also known as the former "Lupine Lodge".
We had made reservation for a window seating - that was worth while,
because there are only two tables with this view.
That was the view from "our table"
Medium price range, good food and excellent service.
My choice: Tomato bisque and a Lobster wrap
For dessert: New York cheese cake with chocolate sauce.
I was just so sorry that my dear hubby couldn't join us.

This is definitely a very good addition to the attractions on Campobello Island.
