BACK- after power outage!

Hi - I am back again! What an experience. Two days without power, phone and internet. Camping life.

The storm hit the island pretty bad and there is a lot of damage all around. 

I just got online to send signs of being alive and unharmed in all kind of directions. 

It started out Saturday around noon when the wind got worse and worse. I watched as a spruce tree came down onto a neighbours deck.

Later, I had to go to the motel and took these shots...

Sunday I toured the Island. Wilsons Beach was hardest hit. The photos speak for themselves.

Luckily our house had no damages. Some water came in through a door, and a wind protection came down. Lots of leafs on the ground and branches off the trees. I am really happy that nothing more happened here, compared. They say this was the worst in over 50 years. The park, golf course and campground are/were closed because of trees all over the roads. Now we have get back to normal.

Had to live camping style for two days.
But, what the h...! It is over.
Now it's time for a hot shower!!!

I hope all the other hurricanes go somewhere else. I had enough!

Eastport, Maine, part two

Eastport, Maine, part two

The roads were packed with people milling around and waiting for the parade to start.

We went to a place called "Quoddy Bay Lobster" which is known 

for being the best place in all Maine 

for a good lobster dinner.

And here we go...............MMMMMMHHH

This was a lobster roll junior size. Just enough for me.

After lunch we strolled back through the crowds, had another

view across the harbour and to USS Anzio

before we decided to take the next ferry home and

not wait for the parade. We were at that point tired and longing

for a cool place to put our feet up.

But it definitely had been a gorgeous "fun day".

On the way back the wind had picked up, 

the air was considerably colder, and

the waters were now choppy. 

There were gulls everywhere.

Back at home I carried the deck furniture inside and 

lined up my flower pots for the same procedure.

The rest of my garden has to get through the rough

weather as good as it can.

An hour later the sky turned into an ominous shade of grey

and dark clouds were rolling in. 

"ARTHUR"

was closing in on us.

I am not sure if there will be any fireworks tonight.

PS. As of 8:30 AM Saturday morning: There was no firework, it rained. Now there is a very strong wind, all the trees are bending and twisting. 

Electricity goes on and off.

Steven and Lindsey are back in the US after a horrible border crossing into Canada in St. Stephens. Read about it here.  They decided not to go to Nova Scotia as was planned. 

July 4th -Eastport, ME, part one

Since I took so many photos I have to divide the posting into two parts.

Part One

July 4th - Visit Eastport, Maine

When we sat out for our "fun day" there was still a layer of fog over the water. But the air was calm and the sun was out.

Our plan was to go over to Eastport, Maine and visit the USS Anzio which was open for the public.

The check- in was like at an airport, screening of purses and walking though a gate. 

Outside a small vessel circled around to make sure no one came too close. 

Several small groups toured the vessel at the same time. 

 We went from the end to the front, and from the bottom to the top.

 Don't expect any naval language from me, I have no clue. But it was an amazing and a worthwhile

experience.

 Afterwards we went up and down Waterstreet. 

At one end they had just started a pie-eating contest.

By now it was noon and high time that we got out of the glaring sun and heat for a while. So, we decided to find a good spot for something to eat.

Visited by different kind of Blue Bird

The last couple of days I had visitors again. This time it was the youngest "boondocking" couple I have ever encountered!

Steven and Lindsey, (check out their beautiful web page), are from Oregon, came up the East Coast on an extended vacation before turning back home.

 When they pulled in with their Blue Bird, I thought for a moment, UHOH - how will that work out. But Steven is a very good driver and it was not a problem at all, neither when they backed out this morning.

We had some nice chats about this and that. I got the impression that these two have gotten the taste for this uncomplicated way of travelling, and there is a good chance that they, when finally getting into our age, will end up doing what we do every winter. 

The weather was warm and nice and since I had the day off work we toured the island together.

Reflections

I am glad I got to know Steve and Lindsey. Thanks for visiting, and who knows, maybe our ways cross again somewhere in the future!

Now I am waiting what "Arthur" will do. There is a chance that we get a visit of the first hurricane of the season. I hope not. It would damage my beautiful peonies!!
