Glazed Pork Sirloin with Roasted Potatoes

For the time being we are camped out near Quartzsite, AZ . The vegetation is different than near Holtville, CA, lots of Saguaro cacti that give a great photo motive.

January is the month where many winter campers gather here in the desert of Arizona to the visit flee-markets, vendors and RV-shows.

We use the occasion mainly to visit with friends and fellow bloggers who happen to be in the area.

Close by we found the winter "homes" of Toni and Doug, Sandi and Jim, Teri and Jerry, and Denise.
Yesterday we met with Jim and, today we visited with Al and Kelly.

Amazing how many great people we learned to know through boon-docking and through blogging.

Before we went to Quartzsite, AZ our refrigerator was stocked up and, today was the day were I had to do something with the pork loin.

I saved half of the seasoning mix that was meant to be on the Christmas ham.
I guessed that if this was good enough for a ham, it might be good for the pork loin as well.
So I used a generous portion of the seasoning to cover the pork loin from all sides, heated the oven up to 375 °F and roasted the meat for about 35 minutes. It turned out very well.

While the meat was cooking I cubed a sweet potato and two white ones, boiled the pieces for 10 minutes and then fried the cubes in a little oil until done.
For vegetables we had steamed cabbage and some kale.

Ingredients for 2 pers. :

1 sweet potato, cubed
2 potatoes, cubed
1/3 of a medium cabbage head, finely sliced
2 leafs of kale, sliced
oil
1 pound pork sirloin
1/2 cup Glazed Ham Seasoning (leftover from Christmas cooking)

Green Beans and Fleamarket

There was a nasty wind today and we could not go on as planned to Joshua Tree Park. J.P. and I stayed putt and went to the fleamarket in Quartzsite, AZ instead.

In the afternoon we sat together in lee of the campers with Lee, Terry, Jeri and Toni. 
Sandi and Jim, as well as Denise left today to visit other premisses. They are really nice people and I hope we will meet again somewhere, some time.

When supper came I was prepared. Today we had green string beans, pork stew and potatoes. 


There is no fire tonight, it is pretty cool outside. Time to read and blog.

Heute mußten wir unsere Reisepläne ändern. Es war ziemlich frischer Wind angesagt und deshalb blieben wir noch einen Tag länger in Quartzsite.


Wir haben noch mal den Flohmarkt besucht und später mit Lee, Terri, Jery und Toni im Windschatten des Wohnwagens Kaffee getrunken.
Sandi, Jim und Denise haben die Gegend schon heute morgen verlassen und sind wieder auf Tour. Ich hoffe wir sehen uns mal wieder.


Zum Abendessen gab es grüne Bohnen mit Schweinegoulasch und Kartoffeln.
Heute Abend wird es auch kein Lagerfeuer geben, es ist zu ungemütlich. Da kann man nur drinnen sitzten und Lesen oder Bloggen.

Vi kjørte ikke til Joshua Tree Park idag, det var varslet for mye wind i området. Istedenfor besøkte vi loppemarket og koste oss med kaffe i skyggen av campingvognen. 
Sandi, Jim og Denise er allerede på tur igjen, De forlått Quartzsite imorres men jeg håper vi treffes igjen noen gang.
Til middag ble det grønne bønner og svinegryte.
Det vil ikke bli noe bål ikveld, det er alt for kjølig for å sitte ute. Vi heller koser oss innendørs og leser eller skriver i bloggen.

Hasch-Browns and a Fanny-Pack

After breakfast we went "downtown" Quartzsite to have a look around.

Vendors are mostly in place already and there is a lot to see (and buy).

We shopped for a friend, they needed a solar spotlight and I good a "fanny-pack" for myself.

I like colourful windsocks...

..but J.P. is convinced that we need none.

After a "cheeseburger" for lunch (this is one of the rare occasions when I eat such), we headed back to our rig.
In the afternoon there was a new rig coming in and a they had a bit of a trouble finding a place to park despite there is so much open space around. It took a while and lots of talking, but finally they got settled.
For dinner we had steak, sweet potatoes and hashbrowns. J.P. did the steak and I the rest. By 6 PM we were ready for the next session around the bon-fire.

Nach dem Frühstück ging es ab nach Quartzsite. Viele Händler haben ihre Buden schon aufgebaut und es gibt viel zu sehen (und zu kaufen).
Wir suchten und fanden ein Spotlight das mit Sonnenlicht betrieben wird. Außerdem fand ich noch eine Handtasche zum Umschnallen, (Bauchtasche) für mich.
Nach einem Cheeseburger, ein seltenes Mahl für mich, ging es dann wieder zurück zum Camp.
Am Nachmittag gab es Probleme mit einem neuen Camper der sich mit nur 3 m Abstand neben einen der anderen Wagen geparkt hatte. Dabei ist doch soviel Platz rundherum. Nach einigem Argumentieren wurde das Problem glücklicherweise gelöst. 
Zum Abendessen gab es ein riesiges Steak vom Grill mit Bratkartoffeln und Pilzen. Danach war eine neue Sitzung am Lagerfeuer geplant.

Etter frokosten kjørte vi til Quartzsite for å shoppe. Mange boder var allerede på plass og det er mye å sjå på (og å kjøpe av). Vi lette etter et sol-lys, en venn av oss ønsket seg noe slikt. For meg selv valgte jeg å kjøpe en "rumpeveske" (fanny-bag). Kjekt å ha.
Etter vi hadde spist en cheeseburger til lunsj returnerte vi hjem igjen til campingplassen vår.
Om ettermiddagen ble det trøbbel med en ny medlem i klubben. Han hadde parkert for tett inntil en annen vogn. Etter mye om og men ble problemet løst. 
Gubben laget en diger oksesteak på grillen mens jeg laget tilbehør.
Så ble det enda en natt rundt bålet.

After we arrived in Quartzsite, AZ we were met with a big "Hello" from all these nice people we only knew through their blogs. Finally we got to meet some of them in person.

My supper was done quickly since I cooked the chicken a day ahead.
Just some potatoes and veggies to cook and we were ready.
Afterwards we socialized around a bon-fire. Some of the ones we know from their blogs: Terry and Jeri, Sandi and Jim and Jimbo.

Als wir in Quartzsite, AZ ankamen wurden wir mit großem "Hallo" begrüßt. Obwohl wir uns nicht kannten, haben wir doch den ein oder anderen Blog verfolgt und waren uns nicht ganz fremd. Die Campingleute sind doch ein spezielles Völkchen. Man trifft auf viele nette Leute unterwegs.

Unser Abendessen war schnell zubereitet da ich das Hühnerfleisch schon am Abend vorher zubereitet hatte. Nun gab es nur noch die Kartoffeln und das Gemüse zu kochen. Anschließend saßen wir noch lange zusammen am Lagerfeuer.

Ved ankomsten i Quartzsite, AZ ble vi hjertelig hilst velkommen av våre venner fra blog-verden. Vi har ikke møtt hverandre før men vi har lest bloggen av hverandre mange ganger og følgt med hva som skjer i hveranderes reisedager.
Maten var laget i en fei fordi jeg hadde tilbered kjyllingkjøttet dagen i forveien.
Da ble det bare å koke noen grønnsaker og poteter.
Etterpå sat vi i lag rundt bålet og koste oss.
